FORMULA GTi

Etienne van der Linde wrote himself into the record books after two fine wins in the last round of the South African Formula GTi Championship at Kyalami on Saturday, becoming the yougest ever South African Drivers Champion.

The 17-year-old also added a new page to the Van der Linde family motor sport tradition. His father, Hennie, raced to several Modified Saloon Car Championships while his elder brother is a former SA Touring Car Champion.

The race for the title on Saturday was between Van der Linde (Ray RF92) and Morne Jurgens (Swift 92), the pair starting the day with four points the difference between them. At the finish, it was van der Linde who kept everything together and took the flag in both races, Jurgens able only to manage third place in each race behind Hennie Groenewald's Swift 92.

Graham Donker also wrapped up the Class B title, winning both races. In the first he beat Stephan Bosman and Malcolm Cochrane to the line and in the second produced an exact repeat to clinch the championship.
