Camirand dominates. Key Motorsport earns third win
Sainte-Croix,Quebec (July 6th, 2003) -- Key Motorsport dominated the fourth round of the FAQ-Hankook Championship from start to finish on this weekend's double-header race event in Sainte-Croix.
Marc-Antoine Camirand, of St-Leonard D'Aston(Qc) grabbed the pole position during qualifying and piloted the #41 Hyundai Tiburon/Hyundai Auto Canada car to his first win of the 2003 FAQ/Hankook Touring Championship.
Marc-Antoine Camirand commented: "It was a great race and a lot of fun. I didn't have a great start, falling back to second and then with my team mate Jacques Gravel getting a great start and getting around me down the back straight-away. But after the first lap and when my tires came around, my car was just excellent. Then it was just a matter of pacing myself. The key for me was just getting around Jacques clean, and then securing the move. Jacques and I had a great battle for the lead and it was great racing- clean, and just fun. Overall, the team had a great weekend."
He finished 9th in Saturday's race.
In race 1, Jacques Gravel (BMW 328i E36 sponsored by Hankook/Canada Tire and prepared by Key Motorsport), drove his #43 car to third place, after qualifying 6th . On Sunday, Jacques managed to finished 4th, fighting chronic brake problems.
Jacques Gravel commented: "This is the best way for me to start the season, the great finish says a lot for Key Motorsport". He continued, "Everyone on the team works very hard, it's a group effort and I think we've done well to be ahead of so many cars in the class. It's a good feeling and I'm confident we're going to have a successful season."
In the Formula Ford 1600 class, Key Motorsport's driver Olivier Comeau, concluded his Sainte-Croix week-end on a high note by finishing second on Sunday's race after starting last on the grid. He also captured a fifth place on Saturday. An awesome performance from the Sherbrooke's driver.
Olivier Comeau commented: "It was an interesting race day. I think it came down to some smart racing, as in the first corner, everyone went on the inside so I just thought I would try going wide, and that really allowed me to move to the head of the pack. My team and sponsors are behind me and I can't thank them enough. Location Pelletier, along with my team, are simply the best around."
He concluded: "I just went out there and put my head down, and drove my heart out. I am really satisfied with the result, knowing I started last race."
The next round of the Hankook FF1600 Championship will be held in Saint-Eustache on August 30-31. In the meantime, Key Motorsport will be preparing the cars for the fifth round of the FAQ/Hankook - Touring Championship that will be held in the streets of Trois-Rivières, from August 1-3, 2003.
All races will be televised on RDS on later this fall.
