Jamie Slone "Stole the Show" in Mid Ohio Ford Racing Mustang Challenge
TUCSON, Arizona Jamie Slone of the Slone Racing #6 GoPro/Molecule Ford Mustang FR500S came to Mid Ohio for round three of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge and stole the show landing the pole for the race and winning it Flag to Flag, a first in the series this year! Slone said, "Wow, finally I have won my first Pro Race and to do it against all these champions who were competing was an honor. I want to thank my sponsors GoPro/goprocamera.com and Molecule, Rehagen Racing for giving me a great car and my personal driving coach Billy Big Time Johnson. But most of all I want to thank my beautiful wife Kym and my daughters Kelley and Ryann for supporting me these past three years while I am living my dream."
The race began and shortly after Slone had created a 2-3 second lead. As usual a caution flew later in the race and upon the restart Slone once again came across the line after the first lap pulling away. Slone said, "My BF Goodrich G-Force R1 tires were awesome and in great shape all the way through the race. I just kept turning smooth and consistent laps a tad under the limit to make sure I had plenty of tire left come go time and sure enough I did."
Round two took place just a week earlier at Mosport just north of Toronto, Canada where Slone had to replace an engine before the race and ended up finishing 4th. That did not slow him down though as he bounced right back at Mid Ohio and is now in second in the championship with 150 points just 15 back of Andrew Caddell former 2006 Spec Miata Champion and runner up in the 2007 Mazda MX-5 Cup.
Round 4 of the eight race series will take place July 20th at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, a track Slone knows well after a 6th place finish in a Mustang FR500C in the Koni Challenge endurance race last year. Slone says, "I can't wait to get to Barber in July because it is going to be hot and tire management will be key. Also I live in the Tucson, Arizona where it gets up over 110 degrees in the summer so I will be ready to go!"
