Slone Second in Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Championship
TUCSON, Arizona -- Jamie Slone of the Slone Racing #6 GoPro/Molecule Ford Mustang FR500S completed the year at Miller with a 2nd place finish in round 8 to capture second place in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Championship. Slone finished the year on the podium 5 times with the highlight being a win at Mid Ohio that included a flag to flag run. Slone said, "Obviously the pole at Mid Ohio and flag to flag win was the highlight of the year but I have to say to run bumper to bumper with Andrew Caddell and Terry Borcheller at Lime Rock was a great feeling too. In spec car racing I learned that to win the race you must have a car that is really good and you can't make any mistakes. It also helps to qualify on the pole and not relinquish the lead. I had the time of my life living my dream so I can't complain!
Slone got his start at the end of 2005 in karting and in 2006 competed in the Stars of Karting where he took fifth at the championships in the TAG class. In 2007 he competed in the Russell Racing series driving a Formula Mazda capturing two wins. That same year he did double duty and a partial season endurance racing sports cars in the Koni Challenge GS class driving a Ford Mustang FR500C for Jim Click Racing where he had a season high 6th place finish at Barber. Entering the Inaugural season of the Mustang Challenge series in 2008 he had only been in sports cars for just over a year.
Slone adds, "what an incredible journey it has been. I have to thank my beautiful wife and kids for allowing me to do this and my sponsors GoPro and Molecule for the help they have given me. Rehagen Racing was there supporting me along with my driving coach Billy Johnson, I gave it my best. Ford Racing and Miller did an excellent job and made it so much fun. BF Goodrich gave us great tires and I ran them hard flag to flag every race. Here's what is really cool, HD Theatre's Turbo network will air 3 reality TV shows starting Dec 7th at 8 pm EST titled Why We Race. I am a bit scared to hear what I said as emotions can be high in the heat of the battle but hey it is what it is."
Slone's racing success combined with his background in Marketing, Promotion, Sales and Management makes him uniquely qualified to be an asset to any racing series. He adds, "It has long been my desire to be in this industry in a capacity of more than just a driver. Who knows, perhaps I may surface next year sharing my love of the sport with others and helping them to live their dream like I got to do.
