Travis Walker vaults into Rookie of the Year lead with solid seventh at Mosport!

MOSPORT, ONTARIO -- Mississauga racer Travis Walker left the biggest race in Ontario, the American Le Mans Grand Prix of Toronto at Mosport, with a hard earned seventh place finish and the Rookie of the Year points lead. The event, drew what many think was the largest crowd Mosport has seen since it last hosted a Formula 1 race in 1979. "It was great to see all the fans that lined the fences all the way around the track," Walker said.

"It was good to get the Oakville Honda back to the front," Walker said. "We had a tough race in Trois Rivieres last week. Jonak Brothers Racing did a good job to get the Oakville Honda back in shape, and it paid off."

Walker was quick out of the box on Friday practice, and then put a solid qualifying lap in at 1.47.010, just 0.802 off the pole. "Qualifying was good to a point. I think there was some left, but still, I was happy to be near the front."

At the start, Walker settled into a fight and had visions of moving forward. "I made a good start, but we started to fight with each other and that let the leader get away a bit. We never could catch them, but it was close."

The seventh place finish was good enough for Walker to take back the Rookie of the Year points lead. "I know we can win this award, Rookie of the Year. It will be tough, but I know our Oakville Honda and Jonak Brothers crew is up to the task."

Quick News;
Travis Walker acquired a new 'weekend sponsor' for the American Le Mans round of the Honda Michelin Series. East Side Mario's {www.eastsidemarios.com} in Bowmanville signed on for the weekend. "It is great to get a local sponsor that you can show value to immediately," Walker said. "East Side Mario's is one of my favourite restaurants, and we are happy to have had them joined us for the weekend. I am sure they will be back with us for the season finale at Mosport in October."
