Updated Schedules & Prize packages for the MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge and Star Mazda West Coast & Winter Series

With the unification of open wheel racing now official and a new open-wheel landscape beginning to take shape The MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge, Star Mazda West Coast Series, and Star Mazda Winter Series have all added races to their schedules.

"This has been the silliest of silly seasons," stated Series Administrator Eric McCombs. "We had our schedules out and were moving forward when Champ Car just collapsed. This put a lot of series that were using the Champ Car dates back in the shopping for dates category. Lucky for us we have solid backing from MAZDA and we had to change very little."

The most significant change is that the Star Mazda West Coast Series will become the feature event at The Portland Grand Prix on July 26-27 and because of this will get to race on both days. Portland becoming a double header increases the SMWCS to 13 races.

The MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge was also able to pick up an additional date in the track time shuffle. The November event at Infineon has now become a double header increasing the MFMC series to 11 races. The November date is also shared with the Star Winter Series schedule and so the winter series is now a six race schedule.

Due to the added races, the MFMC & SMWCS officials have decided to allow drivers to drop one race from their season points total. This will not apply to the Winter Series.

Prize and promotional packages for the MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge and the Star Mazda West Coast Series have also been announced. Over $10,000 in year end cash is being paid out by the series as well as free Goodyear race tires to the FM and PFM drivers. The series will also be providing every entrant with a complete MOLECULE Nomex Care Kit and Helmet Refresher product worth over one hundred dollars.

"Having Star Race Cars, Goodyear, and MOLECULE behind this series has really helped us increase car count and visibility. MAZDA is also very supportive and we appreciate all they are doing for us and our industry. Our partners have really stepped up and we expect to increase their visibility as the series grows," added McCombs.

The series opener is this weekend at Infineon Raceway during the SCCA Regional event. For more information visit: formulamazdachallenge.com
