Anassis Again Dominant in Ferrari Challenge
MONT-TREMBLANT, QUEBEC (June 27) -- Emmanuel Anassis, fresh from his close win in the Ferrari Challenge race supporting the Canadian Grand Prix, again thrilled a Quebec crowd with his Ferrari racer. This time the Montreal resident won both 360 Challenge races at the Ferrari Festival at Le Circuit this weekend, and extended his lead in the 2004 championship standings.
Anassis had qualified on pole for the first race, edging Jeff Segal by only 3/10s of a second. Anassis took the lead at the green flag, and Segal had his hands full holding off his teammate Kurt Buchwald and Todd Morici. Buchwald and Morici traded positions more than once, with Morici ultimately taking the third podium position behind Anassis and Segal.
The results of the first race were used to set the grid for the second, so Anassis again started on pole with Segal alongside. This time the pair battled nose to talk for the first half of the race, Segal rarely more than one or two car-lengths behind Anassis. Segal challenged more than once, but slid off course in one attempt and suffered body damage. Anassis held a substantial lead over Morici and Buchwald, who took the second and third spots at the end of the 45 minute race.
Special "Spirit of the Challenge" awards were presented by sponsors Bose and Piaggio Aero to drivers Howard Starr, John Horejsi, Mandy Reimert, and Martin Burrows.
The 2004 North American Ferrari Challenge is presented by Motorola. Additional sponsors for the series include Pirelli, Shell, Bose, Girard-Perregaux, and Piaggio Aero.
