LAKEVILLE, Conn. - The name Ferrari means so much more than motorsports.
It evokes a certain sense of panache, an energy and passion, which are exhibited with a flair that is uniquely Ferrari's.
On July 11-12, Lime Rock Park will host a special event that will celebrate the speed, style and Italian thoroughbred racing that forms the essence of Ferrari. The Lime Rock Park Ferrari Racing Days will feature a vast array of activities as well as cover the scope of Ferrari's legendary and illustrious sports car history.
The Ferrari Racing Days will include vendors of racing memorabilia, special on-track demonstrations, historic car displays and festivities, making the event an ideal way to spend time with family and friends. Local Ferrari and Maserati clubs are invited, and encouraged, to drive their cars to Lime Rock, making even the parking lot an extraordinary gathering place.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the Ferrari Challenge.
The Ferrari 360 Challenge series features a modified version of the 360 Modena sports car, transforming it into a purebred race car capable of speeds in excess of 185 mph. At Lime Rock Park fans will be treated to an entire grid of 360s aggressively engaged in wheel-to-wheel competition on the track.
This series provides a venue for owners of great racing Ferraris and Maseratis to bring their cars to the racetrack in an environment that is part racing and part exhibition. The pre-war Alfas from Enzo Ferrari's Scuderia are included as well, so at one of these races the spectator can see the cars that established the racing records of these two great Italian marques.
The Historic Challenge allows spectators to relive some of the great battles of the past. Le Mans-winning Ferrari Testa Rossas compete again with the Maserati 450S, a V8-powered beast which dominated much of American road racing during the late 1950s, and the five-liter Ferrari racers of the '70s and '80s go head-to-head for overall wins.
This unique sharing of the sights and sounds - both on and off the track - of these Ferraris and Maseratis make the Lime Rock Park Ferrari Racing Days a special and intimate way to experience the world's finest racing automobiles.
