Grala tops Ferrari Challenge qualifying.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA, JUNE 8. Darius Grala took pole position this afternoon for tomorrow's Ferrari Challenge race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

Grala's qualifying time of 2:01.557 was almost a half second quicker than rival Doug Peterson. Peterson, who races for Shelton Sports Cars, has won three of the last four Ferrari Challenge races, with Grala winning the most recent at Road Atlanta. Grala had encountered minor mechanical problems in the single practice session, but his Ferrari of Orange County crew had Grala's Ferrari in perfect shape for the qualifying session, which was run in a light rain.

J.D. Williamson II (Ferrari of Washington), Michael Pontoriero (Ferrari of Long Island), TJ Jermoluk (Grala's teammate at Ferrari of Orange County), and Pierre Schroeder (Ferrari of Long Island) round out the top six starters in the 20 car field. Drivers race specially-built racing versions of the Ferrari 360 Modena, with preparation and race support handled by teams formed by authorized Ferrari dealers.

The 30 minute Ferrari Challenge race is scheduled for Sunday morning, June 9, preceding the Canadian Grand Prix. Peterson currently leads the Trofeo Pirelli championship standings over Jose Luis Valera (Ferrari of Houston) and Grala.
