De Megni Gets His Best Result Ever at the Season Debut

The season opening race of the Maserati Trophy's second edition took place this weekend (Sunday May 2) on the roman track of Vallelunga. Amongst the many participants, most of whom are gentleman drivers, Andrea De Megni's race awoke some interest with his 5th place finish. Andrea competed with the Pakelo Racing's (the official supplier of the Trophy) Maserati . Although he isn't a professional driver but a big fan of the sports car, Andrea was able to keep up the pace with the other more experienced drivers. During the last lap he even tried to overtake Alberto's Cerrai's position. The duel ended with Andrea being only a decimal second behind him.

De Megni's final result with the VIP Pakelo car was the best ever in his short motor sport career. In fact Andrea made his debut on the track last year in the same trophy.

Andrea also preceded Giovanna Amati (most fans remember her in Formula 1 behind the wheel of Brabham's car in 1992) who was the VIP Ermenegildo Zegna Car's guest.

"I'm very satisfied! However I must admit that the roman weekend didn't start off on the right foot. During the free practice session, I went off track and damaged my car. I probably demanded too much from my Maserati and lost control of the car at the very challenging Roma corner. The damages on the car forced me to do my qualifying session with the t-car. It wasn't that bad because I finished in seventh place (out of 22 Maseratis) and this is gratifying.

Then came the race. The start wasn't one of my best. I dropped down to 9place but I wasn't discouraged and maintained the pace. With a race that lasts an hour, it's important to keep up the pace and to be constant.

This type of strategy rewarded me. I took advantage of the obligatory pit stops and overtook some of my adversaries, in particular: Giovanna Amati e Alberto Vescovi.

In the finale, my duel with Cerrai was exciting. I tired to overtake him many times throughout the race but I hadn't found the right moment. It was a long battle which ended with the chequered flag where Cerrai was able to cut the finish line before me by only a few metres.

In any case, 5th place makes me really happy and it's my best result ever. I'm also very happy for Pakelo, a company that I have great relationship with and that immediately had faith in me. I hope to repay them with good result throughout the season."
