BATHURST 24-HOUR UPDATE - 20-HOUR REPORT

The Bathurst 24-Hour race at Mount Panorama is set for a sensational fight to the finish between the Australian Holden Monaro and British Cirtek Porsche teams.

At midday and after 20 hours, the Monaro led by one lap with Cameron McConville at the wheel.

The positions were reversed dramatically at 11.34 am, when the Porsche, then two laps up and leading with David Brabham driving, pitted with a broken left-hand drive shaft. The Porsche had led since 8.30 last night.

Right behind came Nathan Pretty in the Monaro, to have the third engine drive belt replaced. Mechanics also spent some time looking around the differential area.

The Monaro was back on track in seven minutes, but the Porsche needed a further six minutes. Darren Palmer is now driving.

The leaders' woes also lifted the British Mosler, which is in third with Sri Lankan Dilantha Malagamuwa.

RESULTS after 12.00 midday
1 McConville (Monaro) 443 laps
2 Palmer (Cirtek Porsche) 441 laps
3 Lamb (Mosler) 427 laps
4 Red House (Duller BMW M3) 422 laps
5 Donaldson (Duller BMW M3) 420 laps
6 Shaw (BMW M Coupe) 416 laps
