Update at 3.45 AM Sunday

David Brabham's chances of success in the 2004 Bathurst 24 Hour appear to have "gone up in smoke" just prior to 3.45am this morning.

Brabham's team-mate Klaus Engelhorn was behind the wheel on lap 288 when he had a oil warning light come on in side the cockpit. The engine made a strange noise and the Austrian driver subsequently spun in his own oil exiting Forest Elbow. The #48 car was in third place when disaster struck.

Cameron McConville has now moved back into the lead aboard the #427 Monaro while Todd Kelly is second in #05.

It turned out to be a bad hour for Ferrari fans with Theo Koundouris crashing the #11 Class B Ferrari as well.
