Rallye Sunseeker, Bournemouth
The 206 Winter Cup reaches it's conclusion on the Rallye Sunseeker this weekend, the 22nd February. The three round inaugural series has caught the imagination of the Peugeot 206 competitors and, like the main 206 Super Cup, goes down to the last round to find the winner.
With the best two scores from the three rounds determining the final championship positions, any of five drivers can walk away with the title. Leon Pesticcio and Richard Sykes are in the best position. They are tied on 50 points and both have a straightforward task ahead of them on the event - each has to beat the other!
Pesticcio said, "I'm going there to win it - I've got no other expectations. I'm keen to win the Winter Cup and I'm not going to Bournemouth to cruise around and come second. It's win or bust." He added "It's the perfect event for a big title showdown. The rally is one of the best organised events of the year and one where the stages are always lined with spectators. There's usually a superb atmosphere. I can't wait to get over the start ramp and get going."
However, Richard Sykes, won't let him win without a fight. Punctures on both the previous events have put him in second place on both, and he has a point to prove. Young Stuart Jones in his first major year of competition has put fastest times on the board on the previous two events but a 3rd and a 4th means he has to take a win with Sykes and Pesticcio out of the top three.
Outside of the current top five, Olly Marshall could upset the apple cart if he wins, and current 5th place man Philip Morrow, who with his win on the first round, the Galloway Hills, could also be poised to snatch the championship.
With thirteen competitors contesting the final round of the 206 Winter Cup, the action will be fast and furious. Among the thirteen is Eliot Retalick, taking the Peugeot 206 Celebrity Car as his prize for winning the Fastest Stages section of the 205 Challenge. He has tested the car briefly and is hoping to create a stir amongst the regular competitors.
First car on the rally leaves Bournemouth Town Square for the traditional stage through the Winter Gardens and Seafront Promenade at 08:15, with the first 206 Winter Cup car away at 09:01. The competition draws to a close after sixteen stages back in Bournemouth around 18:00. <pre> Championship Positions
