COLEMAN COMES UP TRUMPS IN THE VOLKSWAGEN RALLY

A little coaching from the maestro himself, Sarel van der Merwe, helped Keith Coleman and Uwe Koch into a great fifth place on the Volkswagen Rally, round five of the Stannic National Rally Championship.

And, with a little luck Coleman and Koch could have snatched a top three finish. The pair lost two minutes and 10 seconds through a lateness penalty after a gearbox change, and that dropped them down the pecking order.

"The penalty was a little unfortunate but we had a great run and were more than delighted with fifth place," said Coleman. "A little local knowledge helped us on day one, but after that we had to work for fifth place.

"But for me the major factor has been a few coaching lessons from Sarel. That has worked wonders for my confidence and Uwe and I came up with a good result on the Sasol Rally. "Now we have had a good result here and Uwe and I are looking forward to the rest of the season and some more good results."

A steady performance also took Eastern Cape Technikon lecturer Gys Kleyn and Carolyn Cimma into 12th overall and second in Class N3 in a VW Golf.

The pair were only 11 seconds behind Class A6 crew Pierre Goosen and Eugene Blanche at the finish, and have been models of consistency in recent events.
