Postponed: May 15-17 Cherokee Trails International Rally

Chattanooga, TN - The organising committee of the Cherokee Trails International Rally, which was scheduled to take place between May 15-17th, has decided to postpone the event. A new date in September is expected to be announced in due course.

A number of factors have contributed to the postponement of the event, not least of which the war in Iraq and the subsequent economic impact the world over. In addition, a compulsory move from March to May has led to a conflict of dates on the national and international rally calendar.

"We have just been extremely unlucky in the way a number of outside factors have gone against us," commented Kendall Russell, Cherokee Trails Rally Manager. "It is naturally disappointing, all the more so because the whole organising team has dedicated so much to further improving the event and introducing new initiates. Even so, we remain extremely positive because all this work will hold us in good stead and we now have an even greater opportunity to make the Cherokee Trails one of the premier rallies in the series."

The Cherokee Trails International Rally, hosted in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is an FIA listed event and was scheduled to be the third round of the newly-formed Rally Series of North America. Each of this year's seven qualifying events will be observed by the FIA, the sport's governing body, with the long-term objective of becoming an FIA sanctioned series in 2004, the first of its kind in America.

The Rally Series of North America resumes in July with the Rally 24 Horas (July 11-12th), an all-asphalt event hosted in Mexico.
