The Toyota Dealer 400, the penultimate round of the SA Off Road Car Racing Championship...presented by Absa, will have a lot to offer spectators from Mpumalanga and neighbouring Gauteng and Limpopo Province.
The event takes place on October 24 and 25 and will be based in Lydenburg with much of the route in the Kwena basin area, which is situated along the R36 between Lydenburg and the well-known Bambi Lodge on the R539, also known as the Schoemanskloof Road, and will be easily accessible to spectators from surroundings towns and provinces.
Lydenburg is leisurely two and a half hour drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria, less than 90 minutes from Witbank and Middelburg and only one hour from Nelspruit.
The event organisers, SA Motorsport Club (SAM), have organised the Sasol Rally for 12 years and have extensive experience in laying out routes that are spectator friendly.
"There will be eight spectator points on Friday's 36km Prologue," said route director Dries de Klerk. "On Saturday there will be nine spectator points on the 120km section from the start in Lydenburg to the Kwena Dam area and a further nine vantage points on the 120km loop that competitors will complete twice."
"As in the case of the Sasol Rally, which annually attracts thousands of spectators, we have placed great emphasis on providing spectators with as many opportunities to take in the action as possible."
The Toyota Dealer 400 gets underway at 13:00 on Friday, October 24 with a 36km Prologue to determine starting positions for Saturday's main event. The Prologue starts and finishes at the Badfontein Boere Saal at Kwena Dam.
The symbolic start of the main event will be on Saturday, October 25 at 07:30 from Lydenburg Toyota on the corner of Voortrekker Street and Lange Street, Lydenburg and crews will then head out to the Lydenburg Airfield where the event proper gets underway at 08:00.
