Major TV coverage for the Bankfin Offroad Championship

The Bankfin Off-Road Championship, which opens with the Barberspan 500 on March 22 and 23, has secured valuable terrestrial and satellite television coverage.

The MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission and Bankfin have entered into a long-term sponsorship agreement for off-road racing. One of the benefits of the agreement is television coverage on SABC Topsport on SABC3 and A2A on the DSTV platform, which has a wide audience throughout Africa.

Each of the eight events in the Bankfin Off Road Championship - with the exception of the Toyota 1000 - will receive 24 minutes of highlights coverage on the local and international channels. The Toyota 1000 will, however, receive 48 minutes of coverage and there will be a 24-minute season review at the end of the year.

"The importance of the terrestrial and satellite television coverage cannot be over emphasised," said Bankfin Managing Executive Peter Mageza. "The sport needs to reach the biggest possible audience, and the SABC 3 and DSTV packages will go a long way towards achieving this objective.

"The television packages will also be of enormous benefit to competitors and other sponsors, and will spread a South African message on an international front."

The television productions will be handled by Videosport Television, pioneers in motorsport television coverage in South Africa since 1986, with managing director Arthur Abraham at the helm. "Videosport has in the past produced a variety of motorsport programmes which have met the highest international criteria," Abraham said.

"This will again be the case, and extensive use will be made of Racecams. The programmes will aim to capture the human side of off-road racing, as well as the drama and action of a highly spectacular sport."

Professional marketing of the Bankfin Off Road Championship by Charmaine Fortune and Performance Plus Marketing will back up the television packages. "Fortune worked closely with Bankfin during the Bankfin Touring Car Championship," Abraham said, "and innovative marketing will bring added awareness to the Bankfin Off Road Championship."
