The O'Hagan's/Kopanong Hotel Superteam has bought a new Class F challenger which will run in later rounds of this year's Bankfin Off-Road Championship.

The team has taken over the Chevrolet previously campaigned by Frik Mulder in Class F. This follows a decision by the O'Hagan's/Kopanong Hotel Superteam to shelve plans to import an FIA T3 Dakar spec vehicle from the United States.

The Mulder Chevrolet was originally built and raced with great success by US off-road legend Walker Evans, and will be stripped down and rebuilt. The rebuilt vehicle will be raced under the O'Hagan's/Kopanong Hotel Superteam banner by Kopanong Hotel managing director Andre Botha and business partner 'Beans' Heydenrych.

"Importing a vehicle from the United States was going to be a costly exercise, and we eventually decided taking over the Chevrolet would be a better option," said team spokesperson Arthur Abraham. "We had hoped to enter the vehicle on the Toyota 1000 Desert Race in June, but it will now be stripped and rebuilt at our new premises in the Kyalami Business Park in Midrand.

"Andre and 'Beans' will then do a couple of regional events to familiarize themselves with the Chev. The regionals will also give us the opportunity to sort out teething problems before the vehicle is entered in national events."
