Multiple Special Vehicle champion Franz Czepek Senior and co-driver Scott Abraham will go it alone in the Jeep Cherokee in Class T at the Nissan Sugarbelt 400, round two of the Bankfin Off-Road Championship, in KwaZulu-Natal on May 10 and 11.

And, this time around, Czepek is hoping he will get to drive the American import in anger. Scheduled to share the vehicle with regular driver Paolo Piazza-Musso and co-driver Scott Abraham on the Barberspan 500, Czepek was left kicking his heels when the Jeep Cherokee was withdrawn before the race.

A damaged oil seal destroyed the automatic gearbox while the crew was setting the odometer on the measured kilometer at the Barberspan event. It was decided to park the Jeep Cherokee and save it for the Nissan Sugarbelt 400, and with Piazza-Musso sidelined by a previous kart race commitment Czepek and Abraham will go it alone.

"I was really looking forward to my first ever drive in a Production Vehicle, and the Barberspan 500 withdrawal was a major disappointment," said Czepek."Hopefully all will go well on the Nissan Sugarbelt 400, and Scott and I are looking for a good result.

"I have always enjoyed the KwaZulu-Natal event, and the Goodyear MTR shod Jeep Cherokee has the potential to join the Class T frontrunners."

The Nissan Sugarbelt 400 this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, with the Natal Off-Road Motor Club also organizing an Expo of off-road vehicles at the Pietermaritzburg Showgrounds on the Thursday before the event. The Bankfin Sales Carnival at race headquarters at the Eston Farmers Club, will also provide members of the public with the opportunity to pick up bargain buys of new and used 4x4 vehicles.
