FESTIVE NISSAN SUGARBELT 400

The Nissan Sugarbelt 400 on May 5 and 6, round two of the Absa Off Road Championship, will get off to a festive start on Thursday, May 4.

A street party in Pietermaritzburg will give local motorsport enthusiasts the opportunity to have a close look at some extremely hi-tec machinery and, at the same time, have a chat with drivers, co-drivers and technical crew. A variety of Production Car and Special Vehicle machinery will be on view including the new Super Production Class entries from Nissan, Toyota and Ford.

The street party will run between 17h30 and 20h30 in Motortown on the corner of Armitage and Chatterton Roads with plenty of food and drink and live entertainment. A number of street pubs will be in operation with food and drink supplied by the Thistle Hotel.

Adding to the festivities will be music from popular local band Navigator.

"The street party is the perfect place for enthusiasts to meet the faces behind the helmets, and have a look at some interesting cars and bakkies," said clerk of the course Rex Boreham. "The race has, as usual, generated a great deal of local interest, and the street party will get affairs off to a positive start.

"It should be a great race and route guides and other information will also be available at the street party."
