Quite a momentus day here on this Stonethrowers Rally. Michael Barrable/Dermot O'Gorman were the winners, while 2nd placed Niall Maguire takes this year's Dunlop National Championship even with 2 rounds remaining. Michael Barrable commented here at the finish ramp in Clonmel "A very special rally to win, especially with Dermot co-driving, as he sat beside Frank Meagher so often in the past". Niall Maguire said "I knew as long as I kept on the road today that the championship was OK. I'm glad for Michael Barrable that he won. The rally got away from me on the first stage. A good event, very enjoyable". For 43 year old Maguire this is his 2nd Dunlop National title. Ironically today his regular co driver Paul McLaughlin was forced to spectate after breaking his collar bone in a cycling accident during the week. Substitute Paul Nagle, as ever, did a brilliant job. Third placed David Armstrong did his Dunlop championship position no harm at all, and he said "I'm happy enough with 3rd against this sort of machinery. It was hard to know the pace. Really, this was a very well run rally".
In Group N Roy White came out on tops ahead of Aaron McHale. White pushed hard all day on his local event, while Aaron McHale scores maximum points in the Dunlop National series in gpN to increase his category lead.
Just outside the top 10 Liam McCarthy came into 11th while from a seeding of 53 James McCann finished 12th. David James was 13th and 2nd in class to the brilliant Mac McKenna. Kieran Molloy was 14th, racing driver Martin O'Connell 15th. In the Ford Focus Championship, with 1 stage remaining Oliver Stanley still led from Colm Murphy with Brendan Kelly 3rd. Very well done to all at the Tipperary MC for a superb event.
