Rally cars from six decades are set to please the crowds with their head-to-head high-speed antics at this year's Silverstone Historic RallySprint, one of the highlights of the Silverstone Historic Festival - the largest historic racing event anywhere in the world (August 25/26/27).
The event features the third round of the Loctite National RallySprint Championship and 60 cars, old and new, will tackle the challenging Roger Clark RallySprint Circuit. The cars' agility, and the skill of the drivers, will be tested to the full over a mix of surfaces - asphalt, concrete and gravel - two 'yumps' and a watersplash.
Among the historic cars taking part are ex-works Lotus Cortinas, Ford Escorts, Triumph TR7 V8s, Datsun 240Zs and Porsche 911s, as well as fire-breathing stormers from the Group B days - including Audi Quattros and Ford RS200s. One particularly eye-catching entry is the world's only Trident Venturer V6 rally car. Factory-built for the 1970 London-Mexico World Cup Rally, this ex-works machine will run in its original livery, depicting the names of the football greats of the time.
Modern vehicles include the Subaru Impreza WRC of Loctite series leader Roger 'Jedi' Duckworth, the Mitsubishi Lancer of reigning RallySprint Champion Steve 'Wolf' Hill, the Escort WRC of three-times British National Rally Champion Chris 'The Terminator' Mellors and the ex-Carlos Sainz Lancia Delta Integrale of Steve 'Hannibal' Smith.
This year's RallySprint entry is so well subscribed that the third round of the Loctite National RallySprint Championship will be run over two days, with the practice on Saturday (25 August) and the timed qualifying heats and exciting knock-out finals beginning at 5pm on Sunday 26 August.
On the Saturday night, fans will also be will able to meet the RallySprint drivers and enjoy a special live concert by Silverstone's favourite 'The Big Man' and his band on stage in the Scarf and Goggles - the pavilion area in the centre of the circuit.
