2003 British Peugeot 206 Super Cup Champion, Shaun Gallagher took victory on the final round of the series to bring his championship bid to the perfect end. The final round was the Trackrod Rally based in Yorkshire.
Shaun secured the championship on the previous round, the Ulster Rally but went to the event with a number of objectives in mind. With the championship in the bag, the event was the perfect opportunity for Shaun to test out different driving styles and learn more about his own driving techniques. He was also bidding to become the first, in the five-year history of the Super Cup, to win four events in the one-year.
The rally began early Saturday morning and despite using the day for learning Shaun was instantly battling for the lead. Fastest stage times on SS3 and SS4 put Shaun in the lead and he stayed there until the final stage of the day. He was lying in third position overnight just four seconds off leader Stuart Jones.
Day two consisted of six stages and the Motorsport Ireland Billy Coleman Award Winner knew that victory was well within his grasp. Fastest times on the day's two opening stages closed the gap to the leader. However a bent wishbone on SS12 briefly hampered his charge. The problem was fixed during service and Shaun set two more fastest times on stages 13 and 14, leaving Shaun with a 55 seconds lead going into the final stage. Maintaining this lead was no problem on the last stage and the Mullen Express Transport driver took his fourth victory of the year.
His next event is the penultimate round of the French Peugeot 206 Cup the Rallye Le Touquet. Shaun won this event last year as part of the British Peugeot 206 Super Cup and is confident of a good result.
