Volkswagen Galp Racing ready for the Vinho da Madeira Rally
After the preparation tests for the beginning of the tarmac events, Volkswagen Galp Racing finds itself motivated for the next Portuguese Championship stake, the Vinho da Madeira Rally, which will take place next weekend, 28th to 31st of August, at the sinuous and burning hot roads of Funchal.
The level of confidence on behalf of both teams, Paulo Meireles/António Abreu and Pedro Meireles/Carlos Magalhães is high, since the Volkswagen Polo S1600 are best suited for tarmac, where they will be making their first appearance. If we take under consideration the fact that Pedro Meireles obtained the fifth place at the harsh Azores Rally, that gives them an extra motivation: "the Azores result reinforced the teams trust and determination, as well as the conclusions that came out of the tests performed for this new faze of the Championship, with four tarmac Rallies" stated the youngest of the Meireles brothers.
The Volkswagen Galp Racing goal is to finish at the best final standing possible amongst the S1600 Class: "The local Drivers and our most direct opponents have a broader experience in terms of qualifying. Nevertheless, we will try to overcome that handicap, and take the best possible advantage of the information that we managed to gather during the preparation tests for this rally" underlined Paulo Meireles, aware that this rally is extremely demanding in a mechanical point of view, for both machines and the drivers physical condition.
In terms of more technical aspects, the drivers of the Polo S1600 are unanimous: "the car has a very efficient handling on tarmac. Therefore, we will be heading for this Rally with diverse differential loads, so that we may analyze the tyre deterioration and assert which will be the best option in terms of fast and slow qualifying sessions" they concluded.
