Miguel Campos runs 50 rallies with no retirements
The Peugeot Total Silver Team SG attained a new "jackpot" at the Casino de Espinho Rally as well as its 3rd constructors title (1997,2001,2002), with Miguel Campos and Carlos Magalhães winning at the wheel of the Peugeot 206 WRC, adding to the fifth win of the season, assuring the French make's 28th success in the Portuguese Rally Championship. The Peugeot formation followed in the footsteps of the Official World Rally Championship Peugeot Team, attaining another title with yet 2 events to be run.
As he was climbing the highest podium step in Espinho, young Miguel Campos reached his goal, consecutively ending his last 50 participations in the Portuguese Championship, adding up to a total of 5 years and 21 days. A landmark that will go down in the history of Portuguese Motorsports.
Totally dominating the Rally Casino de Espinho, run on tarmac in the region of Arouca and Vale de Cambra, the Portuguese virtual champs, had an advantage to rival Rui Madeira, ending the 1st day with a 53,8s gap after running approximately 41Km against the clock. During the 2nd day, Miguel Campos ran practically solo as Rui Madeira and Fernando Prata (Ford Focus WRC) retired with a 1m21,10s difference to the leader. The Rali Casino de Espinho win was Miguel Campos seventh in 13 participations with the Peugeot 206 WRC, conquering all 11 SS's.
Satisfaction and pride shown off the faces of all the members of the Peugeot Total Silver Team SG, celebrating the special day, as later on explained the emotional Team Manager, Carlos Barros: "There are no words to describe this. We attained a Hat trick in 2002 when we won the constructors, the drivers and the co-drivers championship. We broke a great deal of records and up to now we managed 5 wins. We represent Peugeot with a maximum amount of dignity in Portuguese events, looking up to the make in the World Championship", boasted the man responsible for the Peugeot Total Silver Team SG.
Starring in the conquer of the Portuguese Constructors championship title, Miguel Campos and Carlos Magalhães have many reasons to celebrate: "The first and most important to me personally, was managing to run 50 straight events without one retirement. This will be an important landmark in my career, which I will not forget soon. I also owe it to Peugeot, who has given me the best days of my sports career, and therefore, I feel proud and satisfied at the crowing of the constructors title".
