The growing popularity of off road racing has attracted new sponsors for the Mafikeng 500, the next round of the MSA Off Road Car Championship that takes place on July 13 and 14. Popular restaurant chain O'Hagan's and luxury Benoni hotel and conference centre Kopanong have joined forces to sponsor the O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel 500, round five of the championship. It is a car only event, with the time trial on Friday and the main event on Saturday.

O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel sponsor the Jimco campaigned in the special vehicle category of the MSA Off Road Car Championship by O'Hagan's directors John Weir-Smith and Geoff Minnit.

The dramatic growth in off road racing, increased media exposure and the positive approach of the MSA Off Road Car Racing commission to making events more competitor and spectator friendly had convinced O'Hagan's and Kopanong Hotel to sponsor a round of the championship, said O'Hagan's chairman Weir-Smith. "With most of the eight rounds already sponsored, we are very pleased to be able to secure a round for ourselves."

MSA Off Road Car Commission president Piet Swanepoel, welcoming the new sponsors, said it was encouraging to see individual vehicle sponsors also sponsoring events. They could proudly take their place next to existing major sponsors like Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota and Kwikfit.
