Sean Conlon Memorial Forest Rally
Sunday 30th March, Mitchelstown
Organised by Tipperary Light Car & Motorcycle Club

Round 2 of this year's championship The Sean Conlon Memorial Forest Rally is based in Mitchelstown Co.Cork. This event is run by Tipperary light Car & Motorcycle Club and once again Jim O'Brien, clerk of the course has put together a very challenging event. Competing Crews across the board will have to be on the pace right from the start as this is a relatively short but very competitive round and normally ends up with only a few seconds between rivals. There are 6 stages, 3 locations in 3 different counties! Stage 1,Combaun Wood in the Galtee Mountains, Co.Tipperary. This is a favoured stage by a lot the regulars, who have done it several times in recent the years. Dermot Kelly, winner in '99 and 2000 loves Cambaun Wood and will push hard from the start in his Active Escort WRC in order to try and take maximum points on the day after a troubled run in Carrick.

Stage 2 is new, in the Ballyhoura complex close to Ardpatrick which starts in Co. Limerick and finishes in Co. Cork. This complex has not been used since the Cork Forest two-day event in '94, so it should be well rested very smooth and fast. Stage 3, Kilworth is a reverse of last year but 2 miles shorter, starting close to Kilworth village and goes north with the finish only a few miles outside Mitchelstown, where the crews have a 45min service. It's a difficult stage with a variety roads, plenty of surface changes and plenty of crowds as there is good access.

The seeding is Not yet finalised but here is a look at the leading 4WD entries John McCarthy Impreza 555 (Championship Leader after round 1), Dermot Kelly Escort WRC, Kevin O'Kane Impreza 555, John Donnelly Escort WRC, Eddie Kinirons Celica GT4, James Murphy Escort Cosworth GPA, John McGaffin Legacy GPA, Colin Walsh Impreza, John Drislane Impreza 555, PJ O'Conor Sierra Cosworth, Kevin Lynch Impreza WRC 2000. Local Man John Shanahan is now a serious contender in a GPN Impreza, Kieran Molloy Evo 6 and James Cribben Impreza will battle all the way for GPN honours. The top 2WD machines are the mk2's of Paul Staunton, Ollie Williams, Brian Lawlor, Noel Driver, Mike O'Sullivan, Ray Benskin and Tarmac Ace Denis Cronin makes a welcome return to the woods after trying a few events last season (he must have enjoyed it!) Gus Kearney, Peter Mc Cullagh and Jason Kelly will go hard in their 106 cup cars, these potent (fwd) Peugeots may even put the pressure on the men in good Mk's.

The event starts from the Square in Mitchelstown at 10.30, stage 1-10.45, stage 2 -11.50, stage 3-13.10, service-13.40 (Mitchelstown, Galtee Car Park... 45 mins), stage 4-14.45, stage 5-15.55, stage 6-17.00 and Final Control Mitchelstown --17.35.
