Fast, twisty and tough, that's what the 1065.56 Km of tarmac roads consists of in the forthcoming Marlboro Rally of Lebanon.
The event begins in Beirut on Friday July 5, 2002 and is being held under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, General Emile Lahoud.
In its 26th edition, the Rally of Lebanon (R.O.L.) which counts as coefficient 5 for the Lebanese Rallies Championship will be run over 19 special stages covering the beautiful country side of Lebanon.
Stretching from the capital Beirut to the coast and then to cover the mountainous territories, the itinerary of this rally will be divided into 3 legs:
The 1st Leg consists of a Super Special Stage, the 2nd leg includes 9 Special Stages, while the 3rd Leg is also composed of 9 Special Stages; thus making a total of 277.34Km of special stages, diverging and converging into one superb Service Zone.
In fact, it is scheduled as the 4th round in the Middle East Rallies Championship of this year, the rally of Lebanon will promise the ultimate challenge between foreign and local drivers, among whom middle-east rally champion Muhamed bin-sulayem in his ford focus , the Saudi Abdullah Bakhashab who announced early this year in a Press conference held in Beirut, his come back to the 2002 Middle East Rallies, the Qatari, Hamad El Sowaidi, the Emirati Abdullah El Qassimi, the Lebanese former champions, Roger Feghali and Jean-Pierre Nasrallah and the 2001 Champion Doumit Bou Doumit. Moreover it will gather the largest nationalities of well-known drivers from Jordan, Cyprus, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrein and Syria who consider this rally as their favorite event and as a great achievement by just participating and adding it to their CV.
Mr. George Chami, President of the organizing committee revealed that within the traditions of the R.O.L and being the leaders in implementing new ideas and resources it is for the 1st time in the Middle East with the collaboration of Libancell with their new I-track system that the 1st 10 competitors cars will be equipped with a tracking G.P.S. system and this will allow a close follow up on these cars detailing their average speeds and location through the entire legs from the Headquarters. He added that fans of motor sports will also have access to this new technology and thus will be able to track live their favorite drivers from our website: www.rallyoflebanon.com
On the technical side of the rally, the Director of the National Sporting Committee, Mr. Gaby Kreiker explained that you have to be really fast right from the start , but you still have to maintain a good strategy and tactics because it is a very competitive event and endurance is a major factor.
