"Qatari success on Jordan International Rally".
As leading Qatari World Rally Car driver Nasser Al-Attiyah swept away all before him to take a stunning overall win on the Jordan International Rally, his Qatar Rally Team counterparts in their Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI's were also in the best of form as they conquered the desert stages near the Dead Sea on the Amman based event.
The third round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship took place last weekend, and once again, the brilliant Hamad Al Sowaidi with Irishman Michael Morrissey alongside were the class of the Qatar National Bank supported team after a finely judged performance brought them into 4th overall and an excellent 2nd in Group N. Hamad recovered from a 30 second penalty after SS9 to continue his recent good form, not to mention over nine minutes lost when they punctured a tyre on the Friday!
6th overall and 3rd in Group N was the talented Qatari man Misfer Al-Marri. Enjoying the desert stages, Misfer was consistently quick in his Lancer, putting the disappointment of retiring on the recent Rally of Lebanon behind him. Right behind Al-Marri was another flying Qatar Rally Team driver, Abdulla Al Kuwari. Abdullah another driver to receive a thirty second time penalty on the event, as he brought home his Lancer in an excellent 7th overall and 4th in Group N as the Qatar rally drivers helped to dominate the Top 10 positions.
Slightly less fortunate than their three team mates were Khalifa Al-Attiyah and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari. Khalifa had enjoyed a good start on the event but a mechanical failure shortly after SS5 forced him to retire from the rally in his Mitsubishi. Abdulaziz was even less fortunate this time. A host of problems on the first leg meant that he went over the maximum permitted lateness on the first leg, and was unable to continue further.
