The Stewards of the Cyprus Rally handed out a hefty fine to Hamed Al Wahaibi for not attending an event which he had nominated in the Production Car World Championship.

It constitutes a strong warning to any other competitors who register and then walk away from FIA Championships.

The Stewards' statement said - "The Stewards received a communication from Mr Hamed Al Whaibi addressed to the FIA and a copy of his press release announcing his retirement from Motor Sport. Mr Hamed Al Wahaibi has been a well-known participant in Motor Sport.

His decision to retire in the middle of a Championship he has agreed to participate in, without any regard for the Conditions of participation of the Production Car World Rally Championship, is absolutely unacceptable to the Stewards.

The decision of the Stewards is to levy a fine of US$20,000 to Mr Hamed Al Wahaibi for this unacceptable behaviour, with the hope that the example set by Mr Al Wahaibi will not be emulated by his friends and admirers currently Active in motor sport.

The decision of the Stewards is to be communicated to the ASN that issued Mr Wahaibi's license, to ensure that Mr Al Wahaibi derives no benefit from any activity in Motor Sport until his fine is paid."
