The organisers of the Rally of Lebanon have informed the FIA that they are ready to change the date of this year's event and join the World Championship as a replacement if any of the current rounds are called off by Europe's outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

All major rallies in Britain and Ireland have been suspended until further notice because of the disease, but there have been suggestions that other rallies may be cancelled, especially when so many of the works teams come from Britain. The Catalonia Rally was in doubt only days before the start and restrictions were imposed on spectators on certain stages. The next three rounds of the world series -- Argentina, Cyprus and the Acropolis -- are not in question, but other rallies may prove vulnerable.

The Lebanese were planning to run their event to the World Championship blueprint this June in any case as part of their bid to become another Middle Eastern round of the series.
