UAE-based Lebanese driver Michel Saleh was fastest on the super special spectator stage which brought the Jordan International Rally to life tonight (Thursday), but Mohammed Ben Sulayem remains hot favourite for victory in his Ford Focus World Rally Car.

Watched by hundreds of spectators,and also live on T.V , Saleh grabbed a one-second advantage on the 2km super stage at Amman Trade Fair, although Ben Sulayem will be planning to turn on the power when the rally begins in earnest in the desert outside the Jordanian capital in the morning (Friday).

Giving a debut to his SAIF-Zone Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6, Sharjah's Sheikh Abdullah Al Qassimi was seventh fastest overall and well-positioned to extend his lead in the race for this year's Middle East Group N title. <pre> Provisional leading positions after super special stage:
