The Killarney & District Motor Club is pleased to announce that the 2003 International Rally of the Lakes will be included in the calendars of two major championships based in continental Europe. The event, which is scheduled to take place on May 3-4, will be a counting round of both the International Netherlands Rally Championship and the West Euro Cup series, and as such, it is expected to attract in the region of fifteen to twenty crews from across Northern Europe. The visitors will take on the leading Toshiba Computers Irish Tarmac Championship contenders over the famous Killarney stages.

There will be five rounds in the 2003 West Euro Cup. The other events will take place in Norway, France, the Isle of Man and The Netherlands. With the exception of the Norwegian round (which is a snow rally), all the events are held on tarmac roads.

For the Netherlands Championship, the Irish foray will be one of three outside its national borders during 2003, with visits to Germany and Belgium also scheduled. The reigning Netherlands Champion is Mark Breijer, who won the 2002 title in a Subaru Impreza WRC99.

The 2003 International Rally of the Lakes will also count towards the 023 Tiles Southern Four Rally Championship, the Ford Ireland Focus Rally Championship and the Toshiba Computers Historic Tarmac Championship.
