So far everything is going according to plan for Franz Wittmann/Bernhard Ettel at the IRC-run in Sanremo

In the IRC overall ranking the Interwetten Racing Team lies in 28th place and reached third-best times among the Mitsubishis

At the top the much more powerful S2000 cars are obviously dominant but favourite Jan Kopecky already had to retire on SS 2 due to an accident

After Franz Wittmann/Bernhard Ettel had completed two satisfactory turns this morning at the shakedown, a course that is a little over three kilometres long, they subsequently prepared themselves thoroughly for the start of this IRC-run at 18.00 in San Remo. At the ceremonial start the two Austrians were let off with starting number 27 amongst the applause of the numerous spectators.

Following this, three special stages without service had been planned - two of which were completed. The third one had to be cancelled after starting number 20 since a car in front of Franz Wittmann had blocked the road:

"Due to the narrow road there was no way of getting past. At first the second car in front of me had an accident and then the one right ahead of me had a tyre damage and also was forced to stop. That meant the end of the stage for all of us. Until then I was absolutely satisfied with my performance. I am third-best Mitsubishi driver, whereas the other two are true local heroes who know each turn by heart. The rally is still long and I hope to continue without grave mistakes - if so, a good result is definitely within reach", explained Wittmann at the service zone.

The live timing at this rally, though, was rather an obstacle so far. Things went topsy-turvy in the computer. The organisers hope to solve this problem soon.
