At the end of day 2 at the Barum-Rally bad luck returned to Franz Wittmann/Bernhard Ettel - a tyre damage cost more than four minutes
Thus the Interwetten Racing duo intermediately dropped back to 32nd place in the overall ranking
Despite this problem the man from Ramsau still managed to move up to 27th place on the last stage of the day
On the penultimate day of the IRC-series Barum-Rally three special stages had still been scheduled. Franz Wittmann/Bernhard Ettel, who had been in excellent 14th overall place and thus second-best non-S2000-car, optimistically took up SS 7 in Halenkovice - but:
"A few kilometres into the stage the car started to drift off at the left back rear. I suspected a slow tyre pressure leak and decided to go on. But then the pressure had gone completely whereby the differential injector was damaged. Therefore I had to stop on the stage in order to change the tyre. Thereby we lost over four minutes. This was very annoying since I was very content with today's performance otherwise. Unfortunately the damage to the injector once more cost me valuable time on the last special stage which took place under heavy rain showers. I hope the damage can be completely repaired at the service. If so I shall try to make up some more places in the overall ranking tomorrow and reach some top times as a non-S2000-car", declared the seriously disappointed Interwetten Racing Team driver.
Special stage eight had to be neutralised due to an accident of third- placed Italian Giandomenico Basso. On SS 9 heavy rains set in once again while Franz Wittmann was on the course but the Austrian nevertheless managed to move up several places more in the overall ranking.
