Gravel-princes Franz Wittmann / Bernhard Ettel turn into asphalt cowboys

Now the Lower Austrian hopes for a lot of rain and a little luck

The "Ypres Rally", as part of the "International Rally Challenge (IRC)", will commence punctually at 17.30 on Friday. Until then the Interwetten Racing-duo Franz Wittmann/Bernhard Ettel can still work on their tactics. For competing with the top will be very difficult due to the big armada of S2000-cars - no less than 20 will take part. But the overall sixth of the Azores Rally nevertheless sees his opportunities.

"In prinicple the course is very fast. But the average speed is somewhat decreased by a lot of narrow turns. It is almost like the old special stages in the Raabs area in the Waldviertel. But the deep ditches beside the roads are quite dangerous. If you only get off the ideal line once it will mean certain retirement. A lot of feeling is asked for here", states Wittmann.

Now the Interwetten-driver hopes for a little luck with the weather. And, indeed, heavy rainshowers are predicted for Friday and Saturday. On the second day of the Azores Rally, Wittmann in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX has proven that he can keep up with the S2000-cars on a wet surafce.
