IRC success for Hankook as Andreas Mikkelsen guides Ford Fiesta S2000 to fifth on Barum Czech Rally Zlin
The speed and consistency of Norwegian rally ace Andreas Mikkelsen has netted the Hankook IRC team another top five finish with success on the Barum Czech Rally Zlin at the weekend.
The 21 year old and co driver Ole Floene were faced with competition from more powerful cars and changing weather conditions during the tough event yet consistently turned in impressive stage times.
"It was a technical event with some extremely tricky stages but we had the advantage of having competed on this event last year which helped the confidence levels,'' said Andreas. "The car, prepared by M-Sport didn't miss a beat and the Hankook team ensured we were on the right tyres for every stage.''
The team began the rally recording a string of top ten times before gradually increasing their pace and recording top three times on the final stages of the rally.
Correct tyre choice in the changing weather conditions was key to the top five finish according to Hankook UK motorsport manager Mike Patterson.
"This was one of the most technical rallies of the year in terms of tyre choice with conditions in service very different to the some of the stages and the long loops meant that some stages were relatively dry while others were extremely wet and we needed to work out the right tyre choice to give Andreas the best chance of success.''
He said Andreas had once again driven with great maturity on the event and his performance not only netted the team another fine finish but has provided valuable data for Hankook to further develop its rally tyres for the future.
"Andreas drove hard throughout the rally so we can see how well the tyres have coped under extreme pressure and in some very difficult conditions,'' said Mike. "We have been delighted with how the Hankooks have performed and now look forward to the next round in San Remo.''
