The BFGoodrich Drivers Team operation is a huge hit in Italy with 133 applications!
After receiving 48 applications in Portugal, 54 in Belgium and 24 in the Czech Republic, BFGoodrich is delighted with the success the BFGoodrich Drivers Team has encountered in Italy, its fourth port of call. When entries for the operation closed on August 1, the Commissione Sportive Automobilistica Italiana (CSAI) had received 133 applications from crews wishing to fly the BFGoodrich Drivers Team's flag on September's Rallye Sanremo.
The BFGoodrich Drivers Team is an operation which sets out to give talented drivers a chance to contest their home round of the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge). All competition licence holders are eligible to apply, irrespective of age or experience.
The selected driver will be entered in a Kronos-run Peugeot 207 Super 2000 alongside Kronos Racing's Freddy Loix and Nicolas Vouilloz in the team's other Peugeot 207 Super 2000s, and with all the technical support and professionalism necessary for this type of car.
In the case of Italy, an initial shortlist of five drivers will be drawn up by BFGoodrich and Kronos Racing. Then, on August 28, a panel of Italian journalists will take part in a secret vote to select the crew that will be given the opportunity to contest Italian's round of the IRC.
On September 22, a test session will be organised in SanRemo to enable the crew to familiarise itself with the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 and also maximise its chances of figuring well in the final classification of the 2008 SanRemo Rally.
"The BFGoodrich Drivers Team is clearly a huge success," declared BFGoodrich's Competition Director Frederic Henry -Biabaud. "Following the recent announcement of the name of the driver chosen by the Czech Republic media in Prague to represent the BFGoodrich Drivers Team on the forthcoming Barum Rally, we were thrilled to learn that no fewer than 133 crews applied to defend BFGoodrich's colours on the Rallye Sanremo, Italy's round of the Intercontinental Rallye Challenge! We are obviously delighted to see how popular this innovative project has become, and our commitment to helping drivers from different countries via the BFGoodrich Drivers Team scheme is an eloquent sign of the brand's investment in the world of rallying."
