Gold Medal for Bankfin Motorsport Expo at Auto Africa.
The Bankfin Motorsport Expo at the Auto Africa exhibition at Nasrec from October 23 to 27 has been awarded a Gold Medal by the organisers of South Africa's premier motoring showpiece.
An initiative set in motion by the MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission, the Bankfin Motorsport Expo featured displays from a range of South African motorsport disciplines. Apart from a large contingent of off-road cars from both the Production and Special Vehicle categories and off-road motorcycles and quad racers, other categories represented were rallying, SA Production Cars, Engen VW Polo Cup, Isondo Sports 2000, Formula Vee, Sascar and a variety of powerboats.
The Bankfin Motorsport Expo also included a wide variety of motorsport related product displays. In addition there were shows by trials motorcyclist Brian Capper from the Nashua Mobile Racing Extreme Riding road show, and visitors to the expo were treated to a continuous stream off videos from the Bankfin Off-Road Championship and other worldwide racing series.
"The award is a well deserved accolade for a great many people who put an awful lot of hard work into the expo," said MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission president Piet Swanepoel. "When we decided to open the expo to other motorsport disciplines it was gratifying to see the support we received.
"The Auto Africa exhibition drew huge crowds and was the ideal platform for South African motorsport to get a message across to the marketplace. It is a feather in everyone's cap that we did it well enough to be awarded a Gold Medal."
The penultimate round of this year Bankfin Off-Road Championship, the Queen Motor Spares Tarka 400, will be run in the Eastern Cape this weekend. The final round will be at Carnival City, on the East Rand, at the end of November with a string of championships in the Production and Special Vehicle categories set to go all the way to the wire.
