Irish rally driver begins 3rd championship.
Irish rally driver Shaun Gallagher and co-driver Richard Pashley begin their assault on the French Peugeot 206 Cup (Volant 206) on the 11th April 2003. The Rallye National Lyon-Charbonnieres-Rhone is the first round of the championship and is run over two days with a total mileage of 540 miles. There are 13 tarmac special stages and 110 stage miles.
This event will involve yet another surface change for the Donegal driver, as over the past couple of months Shaun has competed on snow, ice and gravel in his Mullen Express Transport backed Peugeot 206.
"The first French round is going to be very difficult for me" commented Shaun, "many of the young French drivers have done this rally before and they know the stages already. It is crucial that I have a very good recce to give myself the best opportunity for a good result"
Shaun took the lead in the British Peugeot 206 Super Cup when he won the Border Counties Rally just two weeks ago. The win means that the talented young driver is now leading three top championships, his class in the Norwegian National Championship, the West Euro Cup and the British 206 Super Cup.
Upon his return to Ireland the 22-year-old star will have only five days to prepare for his next event the Circuit of Ireland. Shaun is to compete in a Davy Greer prepared Group N Evo 7 with famous international co-driver Rory Kennedy calling the notes.
