Rally Cesky Krumlov - Jaromir Tarabus lost the podium in the final special stage
Czech Ford Rally Team's crew of Jaromir Tarabus and Daniel Trunkat have lost a chance to achieve the third podium in a row in the Czech Rally Championship in the final special stage of Rally Cesky Krumlov. The crew had started the last special stage from the third place with a two-minute lead ahead of their rivals, but unfortunately fell to the fourth position.
The opening period of the rally didn't meet the crew's expectations. In the first super special stage Jaromir Tarabus missed a turn, which caused him almost 9sec time loss. In the following special stages Tarabus was quickly reducing the gap at the wheel of Ford Fiesta S2000. Despite extremely tricky conditions obtained in Rally Cesky Krumlov, Tarabus achieved fourth position after the third special stage. However, he wasn't happy with the result even in the finish of the first leg - although he gained third place after Pavel Valousek had had a puncture in the last Friday's special stage.
"The first leg of Rally Cesky Krumlov has been little bit frustrating for us. In the first super special stage we missed a turn, so we had a time loss from the beginning of the rally. Even our pace on the classic special stages hasn't been perfect. Comparing with the absolute top, we have been losing seconds. In one word we haven't been doing our best. We finished the first leg third after Pavel Valousek had had a puncture. The third position would be ok, but I always have preferred to fight on special stages," perceived Jaromir Tarabus, Czech Ford Rally Team's driver, the first leg.
Jaromir Tarabus - Daniel Trunkat entered the second leg in the third position, which they held with 40sec lead ahead of the fourth driver. During the first Saturday's round the Czech Ford Rally Team's crew extended their advantage, so Tarabus and Trunkat safely controlled the third place. The most crucial should have been the very last special stage. Tarabus lost 2:41min in it and lost the third place. Well, in Rally Cesky Krumlov he wasn't able to gain a podium for the first time in this season, and finished fourth.
"In the last special stage we had a problem with front wheels. At first I thought we had a puncture, but then the handling started stuck. Well, because vibrations were getting harder and harder we decided to stop in the special stage to control front wheels. This halt cost us the third place in Rally Cesky Krumlov, which we lost for 21sec. Everything have been working perfectly during the whole weekend, unfortunately a problem occurred in the final special stage. However, another Czech Rally Championship round is approaching, and we are ready to fight," explained Jaromir Tarabus.
