Entries have closed for this year's Cork Forest Rally, the fifth round of The KBB Doors National Forest Rally Championship. Based in Mallow the event has attracted a full entry with all the championship regulars and some of the Northern Ireland championship front-runners as well as overseas entries. There are 14 stages (80 stage miles) over two days. This is the first two Forest Rally in Ireland since '97 and the first Irish Forest Rally to be timed to the tenth of a second using the new timing beams. The club are delighted that John and Sandy Corrigan of "The Windscreen Company" have come back for the second year running as the main sponsors.
Starting at 3 o'clock on Saturday 26th July, the crews will tackle six stages over 30 miles, service near Mallow after ss3 and ss6. The first car is due in overnight parc ferme at 8:15 Saturday evening. Sunday is even more challenging as there is eight stages over 50 miles. The first car is away at 10 o'clock, with service the same as Saturday after ss10 then a repeat of the last loop of four stages. The first car is due at the finish ramp, Mallow at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Prize giving will be at 7 pm at the Mallow Park Hotel.
Some leading entries include: Dominic McNeill, Dermot Kelly, Trevor Moore, Glen Allen, Brian McCloskey, John Donnelly, James Murphy & Tommy Graham all in Escort WRC's. John McCarthy, Kevin Lynch & Kevin O'Kane in active Subaru Impreza's. Championship leader Eddie Kinirons (Toyota Celica) all in Class 5, GpN leader John Shanahan (Impreza). Other GpN's include John Coleman, James Cribbin, Phil Morgan, Alun Davies & Bob Scanlon all in Evo's (Class 8). All 16 Ford Ka's have entered, John Carroll, Ian Chadwick, Emily O'Mahoney, Eoin Fogarty & Gordon Coleman to mention a few.
Class 1, Lyod Hutchinson is the benchmark in the Mini followed by a few Novas': Aidan Jackson, Steven McGrath & Pat Shanahan. Class 2: Billy O'Connell, Alan Mulcahy, Matt Shinnors, Barry Den (all in 16v machines) Mick Nevin, Jim Fagan & Pete Willoughby. Class 3 Brian Lawlor, Noel Driver, Mike O'Sullivan, Seamus Anderson, Ray & Sean Benskin, Danny McEvoy (all in pintos), Mike O'Connor & Tarmac ace Anthony O'Halloran (both in Manta's). Class 4 John Reid, Paul Staunton, Paul Barrett, James Coleman, Jimmy Devane & John O'Connor. Class 6 Gus Kearney, Jonathan McDaid, Jason Kelly, Graham Quinn, Pete McCullagh Jnr & Joe Shinnors Jnr.
Final instructions have been posted today (Wednesday 16th July) to all entered Drivers and the Entry list will be available on line @ www.corkmotorclub.com on Friday 18th July.
