Barker Aims For Second Win On Carnival City Casino 400
East Rand off-road racing stalwart Cliff Barker will be looking for his second national off-road championship win of the season on the Carnival City Casino 400 on November 16 and 17.
Brakpan born and bred Barker and co-driver Malcolm Joubert will again be out in the Barker Performance Products Land Rover, competing in Class T, and will be looking to add to their win earlier in the season on the Lichtenburg 400. The Carnival City Casino 400 is the final event of the season, with Barker and Joubert aiming at ending the year on a high note.
"We have had some ups and downs this season, but it would be nice to end the year with another win," said Barker, a former Roof of Africa winner and 1994 Production Vehicle and Sprint Production vehicle champion. "Off-road racing is more competitive this year than it has ever been, and beating the factory backed Nissan, Ford and Toyota entries is a tough call.
"The Carnival City Casino 400 is almost in my backyard, so Malcolm and I are looking for a good result and, with a little luck, I think we can surprise the more fancied entries. We are out of the championship picture so there is no pressure on us, and that is a big factor in our favour."
The Carnival City Casino 400 will settle a number of championship issues, and will provide Gauteng motorsport enthusiasts with a bumper weekend of family entertainment. A spectator friendly route offers a number of spectator vantage points at Carnival City Casino, with a three kilometer section featuring artificial jumps and other features, and along the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban.
An Off-Road Expo will run from November 15 to 17 in the Big Top Arena and will include displays from motor manufacturers and importers with a number of highly interesting vehicles on display. A wide range of motor accessories and camping equipment will also be exhibited, and vehicles taking part in the Carnival City Casino 400 will be on view on November 15.
There will be secure parking and toilet and refreshment facilities within the Carnival City Casino complex and the area assigned to the off-road race. There will also be added fun for children - with children's activities under adult supervision - who will be able to enjoy themselves at a kart circuit, skateboard park and climbing wall.
