Galway Motor Club has announced plans for it's first ever "Retro" event, to be known as The Circuit of Galway Classic Rally. It will take place on April 15th and 16th 2000, and will primarily cater for cars registered before 1976. More modern vehicles can take part also. Galway Motor Club was formed in 1960 and this year celebrates 40 years of motorsport.

Base for the event will be the Quality Hotel in Oranmore, Co Galway. The route will cover many of the classic stages and roads used over the years by Galway International Rallies. Competition will involve Regularity, Driving Tests, Selectives and a Night Trial section. The Saturday route will commence at 12.00 noon to the south and east of the county. After a restart at 10.00am on Sunday the route will cover roads north and west of Galway. Finish will be at 16.00.

Regulations and further information about the event can be had from Bobby Clinton, 26b Grangemore, Rahoon, Galway. Phone 00 353 91-521298 (evenings), or by fax from 00 353 91-524557 and email at btgalway@iol.ie
