Large Entry For Carnival City Casino 400
A large entry of more than 70 vehicles for the Carnival City Casino 400 will see the 2001 MSA Off Road Car Championship end with a bang.
The event is the final race of the season and will settle a number of outstanding 2001 championship issues. One title is still up for grabs in the Special Vehicle category with all the championship battles– and some of them are desperately close– still to be decided in the Production Vehicle category.
Franz Czepek senior and junior have already been crowned as overall and Class A champions in the Special Vehicle category, and veteran Giel Nel has clinched the Class B drivers championship. This leaves only the Class B co-drivers title issue to be resolved, with five contenders still in the running.
“ The size of the entry, particularly in the Special Vehicle category where all but one championship has already been won and lost, is indicative of the support off-road racing has enjoyed this year,” said MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission president Piet Swanepoel.“ Late entries could push the final number of starters above the 80 mark but, either way, we are in for a terrific climax to the season.”
The Carnival City Casino 400 offers off-road enthusiasts a bumper weekend of entertainment, and will incorporate an Off-Road Expo from November 15 to 17. Exhibitors at the Off-Road Expo will include motor manufacturers and importers, and a wide range of motor accessories and camping equipment will also be exhibited.
Off-road enthusiasts who want to“ rough it” will be able to let their hair down in their own area. Plenty of vantage points for those who want a biltong, braaivleis and sunny skies atmosphere will be available in a wooded area west of the casino complex.
There will be ample parking and toilet facilities in the area, which will be in close proximity to a five kilometer section of the route specially constructed for the Carnival City Casino 400.“ The route is also spectator friendly, and there are a number of vantage points where spectators can catch the action in what promises to be a spectacular end to the season,” Swanepoel said.
