Simpson goes back to 'School for the Wilson'.
Leading Liverpool rally driver Tony Simpson returns to the rally stages next weekend, as he reunites with the RallySchool.co.uk team to kick off his challenge for the Class N1 1400 honours in the Silkolene BTRDA F1400 Rally Championship.
The 29 year old will pilot a VW Polo 16V on the Lake District based rally, and will also have a new co-driver for the season. Simpson will be partnered by the 24 year old Manxman Robert Fagg, from Port Erin.
After contesting the Polo Challenge in 2003, Simpson was keen to maintain his links with the Polo, and was delighted to have the opportunity to rejoin former sponsor John Goff and the Shropshire Rally School team for 2004.
With backing from RST International and Mortgage Matters of Liverpool, Simpson is delighted to be getting behind the wheel of the Polo for the event. After a successful recent test session in North Wales where Tony had some tuition from renowned tutor Geoff Jones, Simpson is looking forward to contesting the Cockermouth event for the first time:
"I'd hoped to contest the Grizedale Stages at the end of last season, but the deal fell through at the last minute. Fortunately I've been able to put together an excellent package with RallySchool.co.uk for this season, so I'm very optimistic that I can have a good season. Rob has been getting plenty of practice in the Ford KA and Kumho Clubman Championship's, so I'm sure that we will work well together this year.
Given the recent weather we have had, it could be quite an entertaining experience in the Lake District. The stages are usually pretty wet at this time of the year, but snow and ice could make life very tricky on the high ground. It should be a good challenge and I must thank RST International and Mortgage Matters for their support in making the deal possible this season."
Simpson will be part of a strong Formula 1400 line up on the event, with a number of ex-Polo Challenge cars contesting the BTRDA series this year. The RallySchool.co.uk team will field two other cars on the day, for experienced lady competitor Judy Lucas and rookie Roland Jones.
