Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma, CA -- Eight years out of the drivers seat did not impair Mark Wolocatiuk in last weekend's Speedvision World Challenge at Sears Point Raceway. The lead instructor at Jim Russell Racing Drivers School finished 12th in a field of 42 cars. Driving a 1996 Corvette ZR-1 for Pirate Racing, Wolocatiuk started 6th and held that position until after the yellow flag, when he moved up to 5th. A soft brake pedal problem developed, causing him to lose two positions. At Turn 7, Wolocatiuk went off the track, losing four more position and finishing 12th. Wolocatiuk is scheduled to drive for Pirate Racing in the final three races on the West Coast, teaming-up with former teammate and competitor Bill Cooper, who won the Sears Point event. Wolocatiuk began racing with Jim Russell Racing Drivers School at Ontario Motor Speedway. From there he won championships at Riverside and Laguna Seca and won the North American Formula Ford Festival in 1983. He also won the seven-race 1984 Jim Russell Mazda Pro Series, and has driven in the Formula Atlantic, Super Vee, Trans-Am, NASCAR Southwest Tour, Vintage and he drove for a season of ice racing for Team Honda. Since 1984, Wolocatiuk has taught thousands of other drivers the skills and techniques needed to command the best times on the track at any given track in the world.
