KUNO WITTMER, 7TH AT THE GLEN
Watkins Glen, New-York.-- Kuno Wittmer made the best this weekend with an ailing car and finished 7th in the fifth round of the 2009 Touring class SCCA World Challenge held at legendary Watkins Glen facility in upper New-York state. Starting from 9th place on the grid, his worst qualifying position this season, the Montreal driver felt a recurrent vibration in the drivetrain, the same problem that slowed him down in the qualifying session. Nevertheless, he was able to pass two cars in the race. The weekend had started pretty well when Wittmer put his #44 Realtime Acura TSX third after both practice sessions. The annoying vibration happened when he took to the track in qualifying. After five rounds, Wittmer sits fifth in the season standings, only 38 points away from first place.
"Friday was perfect and I had my RealTime Acura where I wanted." he mentioned. "Qualifying is a very short period and we did not have time to spare for this kind of troubleshooting. Before the race, every component in the drivetrain and suspension was checked and we thought it was only an unbalanced wheel. But it came back to haunt me and I just made the best with the car until the checker. Back in the paddock, we found some oil on the front tire and a smell of burnt oil under the hood. Could be a half shaft or steering box."

"I'm sure the crew at RealTime will have this fixed for our next outing in three weeks. Meanwhile, I will be in Toronto next weekend with my brother Nick as we campaign the Lombardi Honda Racing Civics around the urban track. It will be exciting to be back in Toronto where we enjoyed so much success in the past. My next race in the World Challenge with RealTime will be at a new place near Chicago, the Autobahn Country Club in late July."
