Galati goes for second GT title at Virginia
Auburn Hills, Mich, -- Michael Galati, driving the number one Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, is looking to win his second consecutive drivers' title with a good showing in round ten of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed Channel GT Series race at Virginia International Raceway on October 27.
Galati is leading the points with 246, just 15 points ahead of second place P.D. Cunningham. Galati must finish at least in seventh place to retain his drivers' title. "We tested there in July and the car ran really well. It is an interesting circuit, elevation changes with a mix of slow and fast corners - challenging. The S4 should really race well there. I am going to run the race like any other. If we can go for the win we will, we will take what comes with the championship being the ultimate goal."
Marino Franchitti will be driving the number three Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, at Virginia's 3.27-mile, 17-turn circuit. Franchitti has been competing in a Dodge Viper in the American Le Mans Series GTS class. "I had a chance to test here back in July, the track is great, a little tight in places but really fun. The preparation and professionalism of the Champion Team amaze me, the car is excellent. I am looking forward to supporting Michael for the championship any way that I can."
Derek Bell, driving the number two Legends of Motorsport Audi S4 Competition, is currently in seventh place in the drivers' standings with 156. Bell is on pace to improve on his 2001 season ending result when he finished in 11th.
The Virginia race will air on the Speed Channel, Saturday, November 9 at 9:00 p.m.
