VANCOUVER, B.C., Can. (September 3) - Peter Kitchak, of Excelsior, Minn., and Brazilian Pierre Kleinubing took the Speedvision GT and Touring Car poles respectively for Saturday's inaugural running of the Speedvision World Challenge at the Molson Indy Vancouver.

Kitchak, driving the No. 3 Keewaydin/Toad Hall Racing Porsche 911 RSR, turned a fastest lap of 1:26.183 (74.395 mph) in a session cut short by Pete Halsmer's accident in turn five. Bill Cooper, of Bozeman, Mont., will start second in his No. 01 Les Stanford/Pirate Racing Corvette C5.

Halsmer was transported to Vancouver General Hospital for observation.

"We only ran six or seven minutes and were supposed to do 12," said Kitchak, who goes for his third-straight win in the GT. "I think some other people would have gone faster, but we would have as well. This track is a lot more like a road course than a street circuit. There's a definite need for finesse."

Kleinubing will start from the pole for the fifth time this year, setting a fast time of 1:28.817 (72.188 mph) in the No. 42 RealTime Racing Acura Integra Type R. Despite an early brush with the wall, Kleinubing was able to hold on to first over point leader and arch rival Michael Galati, who turned a 1:29.404 (71.714 mph) in his No. 19 Duplicolor/Red Line/DC Sports Acura.
